As a Tech Writer III, you will be using your skills and expertise to work with subject matter experts, to obtain an in-depth comprehension of a variety of systems necessary to meet the documentation specifications for our programs and proposals. The Tech Writer III is a senior-level position responsible for leading the development of comprehensive knowledgebase and process documentation for high-impact aerospace and defense projects. This role involves managing software application procedural and end-user documentation projects, collaborating with subject matter experts, and ensuring that all documentation meets the highest standards of accuracy and clarity.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with subject matter experts to gather detailed technical and user experience information and ensure documentation accuracy.
- Work with technical and non-technical teams to support documentation of processes for the procurement, sustainment, support, end use, and maintenance of software and hardware used by engineering and program teams.
- Own the development, formatting, and maintenance of knowledgebase content for internal and external users of software applications used by program teams.
- Lead internal and external documentation review meetings, gather feedback, and implement revisions.
- Ensure all documentation complies with the highest customer requirements, company standards, and industry regulations.
- Maintain and update documentation as systems and specifications evolve.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance digital documentation quality and efficiency and promote a positive user experience within the documentation.
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of documentation templates, layout guides, and graphics resources.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Bachelors degree in a related field of study and typically 6 or more years of relevant experience
- A higher level degree may substitute for experience
- Related experience may be considered in lieu of required education
- Advanced knowledge of technical writing principles, practices, and standards
- Thorough understanding of desktop publishing tools, including publishing features of
Microsoft Word - Progressive experience in other elements of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Powerpoint) and Adobe publishing tools and editing, layout, and production of technical documents which include graphics, tables, and other embedded content
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams
- Advanced proficiency with documentation tools and software such as Confluence, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Word, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Advanced knowledge of technical writing and user experience (UX) principles, practices, and standards, particularly with regard to process documentation and end-user software documentation.
- Thorough understanding of desktop publishing tools, including publishing features of Microsoft Word
- Ability to obtain/maintain a Secret U.S.Security Clearance is required
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Advanced degree in Technical Writing, English, Engineering, or a related field.
- Extensive experience with aerospace and defense terminology and documentation requirements.
- Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems strongly preferred.
- Experience preparing documentation with minimal input (written or verbal) from subject matter experts, such as design engineers and program managers, to prepare technical and non-technical content and templates.
- Familiarity working with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of product and documentation requirements, verifying content meets applicable standards and is appropriate for its intended audience.
- Prior experience creating and maintaining digital documentation templates, layout guides, and graphics resources.
- Understanding of internal technical reference documentation, including data libraries, training material, process/procedure guides.
- Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry or DoD

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $82,039.23 - $112,803.95. Compensation varies depending on a wide array of factors, such as candidates key skills, relevant work experience, and education/training/certifications. The disclosed range estimate may be adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.
