STI is seeking a skilled Maintenance Welder, Combination, to join our team. This role involves performing high-quality welding processes on submarines while adhering to strict safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate will bring specialized experience in GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) and GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) techniques, ensuring operational effectiveness in a challenging marine environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform welding processes (GTAW and GMAW) on-board submarines, ensuring high-quality welds that meet all operational specifications.
- Demonstrate proficiency in making complete penetration and fusion welds on various metals and alloys.
- Work from blueprints, drawings, and technical data packages to execute welding assignments as instructed.
- Conduct fit-up, welding, and workmanship inspections to ensure compliance with established standards.
- Maintain certification and stay updated with NAVSEA Technical Publications, including:

- NAVSEA TECH PUB T9074-AS-GIB-010/271
- Complete SUBSAFE Awareness and Work Authorization Training as mandated for personnel working on submarines.
Qualifications:
Specialized Experience:
- At least three years of demonstrated experience and certification in performing GTAW or GMAW welding processes onboard submarines.
- Strong working knowledge of all acceptable trade methods as outlined in relevant NAVSEA technical publications.
- Certification in SUBSAFE Awareness and completion of Work Authorization Training for submarine operations.
General Experience:
- A minimum of five years of experience performing shipboard welding using MIG and TIG methods in all positions for various metals and alloys.
- Proven ability to perform fit-up, welding, and workmanship inspections as required.
- Possess the necessary skills, knowledge, and ability to interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical data packages effectively.
