Overview of role:
The Payroll/HCM Specialist (Technical Lead), will bring expertise in both Payroll and Human Capital Management (HCM) functions. The Specialist (Technical Lead) should exhibit a high standard of excellence, enjoy challenges and be results driven. This person can also thrive in busy environments with many priorities. The HCM/Payroll Specialist (Technical Lead) will report into the Product Manager, Payroll Modernization and is responsible for the complex design, configuration and stakeholder support of our Payroll and HCM modules.
Key Responsibilities:
Advisory
-
Provides definitive and expert advice in Payroll and HCM best practices

Actively maintains recognized expert level knowledge in one or more identifiable specialties

Consolidates expertise from multiple sources, including third-party experts, to provide coherent advice to further organizational objectives
-
Collaborates with others to ensure advice is appropriate to the organizational needs
-
Monitors the external environment to gather intelligence on emerging technologies
-
Advise on industry best practices for the application of standards and methods, ensuring compliance and maintain technical responsibility for all the stages and iterations of configurations within the Payroll systems
-
Provide technical and functional advice to stakeholders and set team-based standards for process, set-up and use of Payroll systems.
Solutions
-
Assess and documents the impacts, threats, and opportunities within Payroll technology processes
-
Troubleshoots complex problems and bugs within the systems and works with our external consultant and development partners on specifications and fixes
-
Supports QA Lead with testing all payroll and HCM configurations
-
Investigate and recommend ways to improve system security, stability and efficiency
-
Creates reports using in-system functionality, SQL, and WestJet’s data warehouse plus PowerBI.

Coordinate build activities, undertakes and supports integration testing activities
-
Produce detailed designs and document work using required standards, methods, and tools, including prototyping tools where appropriate.
Leadership

Provide technical leadership, coach, teach and mentor Analysts.

Promote knowledge sharing and adoption of best practices
-
Leads workshops, presentations, and training that provide skill and knowledge development for the team

Leads reviews of own work and reviews of colleagues work
-
Work with operational and technical partners to ensure the supportability of new features/products and to provide timely technical support and fixes to production applications

Engage in meaningful interactions and relationships with users and can manage competing priorities
Experience and Qualifications:
-
Bachelors and 7+years of experience in JDE and/or Dayforce preferred, or an equivalent combination of training and experience

Appropriate licenses and certifications
-
Requires expert problem-solving skills and advanced interpersonal and communication skills
-
Proficient in managing service components to ensure they meet business needs and performance target
-
Proficient in dealing with high-impact, complex change requests. Ability to ensure that release policies, procedures and processes are applied
-
Proficient in leading investigations and resolution of incidents.

Proficient in managing planning of system and/or acceptance tests, coordinating both functional and non-functional specifications.

Proficient in providing authoritative advice and guidance on test planning and can identify the process improvements and contribute to definition of best practice

Proficient in collaborating with others to review specifications and can use these agreed specifications to design, code, test and document programs or scripts of medium to high complexity, using the right standards and tools

Proficient in working on complex integration as part of a wider team

Experience in initiating and monitoring actions to investigate patterns and trends to resolve problems, including consulting specialists where required and can determine the appropriate remedy and assist with implementation of it as well as preventative measures

Broad understanding of information security practices, and able to design solutions and services with security controls embedded, specifically engineered as mitigation against security threats as a core part of the solutions and services

Broad understanding of standards for definition, security and integrity of objects and ensure conformance to these standards

Expertise in understanding and identifying problems, analyzing, and helping to identify the appropriate solution. You can classify and prioritize problems, document their causes, and implement remedies.

Expertise in understand whole systems and take responsibility for teaching this to others

Expertise in identifying process optimization opportunities with guidance and contribute to the implementation of proposed solutions

Expertise in reviewing the systems designs of others to ensure the selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources and integration of multiple systems and technology
