We are seeking a Manager, Solution Architecture to lead the design and evolution of enterprise-grade, cloud native solutions across our digital ecosystem. This role will translate business strategies into actionable technical architectures, guiding the hands on development of applications on AWS and Azure using microservices, containers, serverless technologies, modern API patterns, and Infrastructure as Code.A key focus of this role is ensuring that the digital solutions we build enhance both customer and employee experiences. This includes creating systems that simplify workflows, reduce manual effort, improve real time access to information, and empower frontline teams to deliver safe, efficient, and seamless operations.
Responsibilities:Lead solution architecture for Air Canada’s digital platforms, ensuring consistent, scalable, secure, and reusable designs across all customer-facing ecosystems.Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of solution and technical architects.Align solution designs and roadmaps with enterprise architecture standards and technology strategies.Translate business needs into clear, actionable solution architectures and technical blueprints.Provide hands-on leadership in designing cloud-native solutions using AWS/Azure, microservices, containers, serverless, and event-driven patterns.Drive adoption of modern engineering practices including CI/CD, API-first design, observability, and security-by-design.Facilitate architectural reviews, decision-making sessions, and design workshops with cross functional teams.Evaluate technologies, tools, and platforms, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and future-state architecture.Communicate architectural decisions effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences and present solutions to governance boards.Oversee implementation to ensure adherence to architectural standards, security requirements, and performance targets.Identify architectural risks, define mitigation strategies, and ensure delivered solutions meet quality expectations.Maintain architecture documentation and continuously improve architecture processes, standards, and methodologies.Provide technical leadership across teams, supporting integration strategies and resolving complex design challenges.
QualificationsBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field; TOGAF, AWS, or Azure certifications are assets.5+ years of IT experience, including 3+ years in solution architecture within complex enterprise environments.Strong expertise in cloud-native architectures (AWS/Azure), microservices, containers, serverless, and modern integration patterns.Solid understanding of SOA, API-first design, web/mobile architectures, and enterprise integration frameworks.Proficient with REST APIs, JSON, XML, schemas, and web service standards.Experience designing secure, scalable, and high performance solutions across digital and backend platforms.Knowledge of relational databases (DB2, MySQL, SQL Server) and enterprise data integration principles.Experience architecting solutions across legacy, mainframe, client server, and cloud ecosystems.Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, identity management, SSO, and modern engineering practices.Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts.Strong leadership, collaboration, and problem solving skills; able to thrive in fast paced, cross functional environments.Demonstrate punctuality and dependability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment.
