JOB SUMMARY:
A machine mechanic inspects, maintains, and repairs machinery by diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, performing routine maintenance like cleaning and lubricating, and replacing or fabricating parts. This role requires technical skills with tools, diagnostic equipment, and sometimes welding, as well as a strong understanding of safety regulations and procedures. The primary goal is to keep machines running efficiently and prevent costly downtime.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintenance and repair: Perform routine maintenance 3,4 & 5-axis machinery including milling, turning and grinding machines (cleaning, lubricating) diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electrical malfunctions on complex industrial and heavy machinery.
- Problem diagnosis: Use diagnostic equipment, technical manuals, and observation to identify the root cause of problems and determine the necessary repairs.
- Parts and fabrication: Repair or replace defective parts, and may fabricate new parts using tools like lathes, grinders, and drill presses.
- Testing and calibration: Test and inspect repaired machines to ensure they are functioning correctly and operating at peak efficiency.
- Calibration: Install new machinery equipment, ensuring it is properly assembled, connected, and calibrated according to specifications and safety standards.
- Safety compliance: Adhere to all safety procedures and regulations, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Diagnosis and Troubleshooting: Observe and test malfunctioning machinery using technical manuals, blueprints, and computerized diagnostic equipment to determine the source of problems.
- Repair and Replacement: Disassemble equipment to repair or replace broken or defective components, using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and sometimes welding equipment.
- Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, including cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting machinery to optimal specifications to prevent future breakdowns and minimize downtime.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities performed, including parts used and hours worked.
