Job Summary:
The Senior Avionics Technician will perform scheduled and unscheduled O-Level maintenance on FA-18 aircraft electrical and avionics systems, providing expert-level technical direction and mentorship to junior personnel. This role requires deep familiarity with the FA-18 platform and prior experience as a Work Center Supervisor. The position includes both hands-on maintenance and leadership responsibilities, supporting daily flight operations at VX-31.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Maintenance & Oversight:
Execute scheduled/unscheduled maintenance on FA-18 electrical and avionics systems.
Interpret technical data including Maintenance Instruction Manuals (MIMs), technical directives, and data packages.
Lead and mentor Level I technicians, providing technical direction and support across all aircraft maintenance efforts.
Apply technical expertise to resolve complex problems and troubleshoot avionics issues.
Operational Coordination:
Direct and coordinate daily work center operations in accordance with CNAFINST 4790.2 series and associated instructions.
Assign tasks, monitor progress, track maintenance completion, and report updates to supervisory staff.
Conduct spot checks and provide corrective guidance to ensure quality and safety compliance.
Compliance, Safety & Incident Management:
Ensure all assigned personnel participate in FOD walkdowns, safety drills, and training events.
Investigate accidents, incidents, or infractions to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
Promote a safety-first culture while enforcing maintenance discipline standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
Military Documentation: Military VMET or JST must be submitted with application.
Experience:
- 10+ years of U.S. Navy/USMC/USCG O-Level Avionics/Electrical maintenance experience.
- 5+ years of experience specific to FA-18 aircraft (at least 24 of the last 36 months preferred).
- Must have been CDI qualified in an FA-18 Avionics/Electrical Work Center.
- Experience as Work Center Supervisor required.
- Prior experience as Plane Captain, QAR, CDQAR, or Flight Deck Coordinator highly desired.
Education & Training:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Navy Class C school completion in FA-18 Avionics or Electrical Systems preferred (can be substituted with 60 months of relevant FA-18 experience).
Certifications & Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must hold and maintain a current U.S. Secret security clearance.
- Ability to lift beyond OSHA standards.
- Must be able to work any shift; travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated leadership in high-tempo flight line environments.
- Familiarity with maintenance recordkeeping systems and reporting protocols.
- Proficiency in coordinating safety drills, technical inspections, and corrective actions.
