POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for technical support of facility planning, design, construction, and maintenance to achieve efficiency and cost objectives. Designs building facilities, equipment, and machinery of basic to moderate scope and complexity. May have responsibility to develop and monitor environmental and/or energy management programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversees moderately complex planning, design, reconfiguration, construction, maintenance, and alteration of equipment, machinery, buildings, structures, and other facilities. Gathers and reviews data concerning facility or equipment specifications, company or government restrictions and/or permit requirements, required completion dates, and construction feasibility.

     

  • Coordinates with architecture/engineering firms in developing design criteria and schedules for new construction, repairs or remodeling, and electrical and telecommunication distribution systems. Coordinates with building contractors and ensures building safety and adherence to applicable building codes and related safety and environmental regulations.

     

  • Reviews and estimates design costs including equipment, installation, labor, materials, preparation, and other related costs. Prepares bid sheets and contracts for construction and facilities acquisition. May negotiate best terms directly or through the procurement function.

     

  • Inspects or directs the inspection of construction and installation progress to ensure conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules.

     

  • Formulates and recommends changes in facilities management systems and procedures.

     

  • May coordinate energy conservation program and collect data to support improved conservation measures. Conducts studies to evaluate and determine the most efficient use of electrical power.

     

  • May oversee environmental programs, prepare environmental impact statements, and apply for all new permits and renewals. Ensures that required documentation and inspections are completed; implements policies, procedures, and training to meet compliance regulations. May evaluate and prepare contracts for licensed hazardous waste disposal, monitor waste handling, and implement spill-control procedures.

     

  • Based on facility need, participates in design and/or plans for electrical distribution and lighting systems for office and shop from primary source to end use point (e.g. developing specifications for electrical equipment such as substations or specialized control panels).

     

  • Performs safety evaluations and may design electrical layouts for machinery, building, and equipment.

     

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical or trade publications, and/or participating in professional associations.

     

  • Interprets federal and state laws, regulations and company policy as they apply to facility planning. Investigates and resolves compliance problems and maintains required documentation. Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, ensuring adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.

     

  • Shares specialized knowledge with others. Represents company on specific projects. Mentors new employees. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Work assignments may include cross-functional or project team responsibilities (e.g. continuous improvement).

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors degree (BA) or an equivalent combination of education and experience which has provided both theoretical and practical knowledge in the field. Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through three or more years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of facility engineering principles, industry practices, regulations, and policies. Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements related to facilities, equipment and plant layout (e.g. OSHA, Unified Building and Electrical Codes, and environmental regulations). 
  • Ability to effectively apply continuous improvement methods and techniques. Ability to use standard business software applications and specialized systems (e.g. CAD or environmental monitoring systems). 
  • Ability to work on a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity where analysis of the situation or data requires thorough identification of factors and analysis of impact. Ability to work within general work objectives regarding projects and team goals. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies and recommend changes to procedures. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present information to team members, team leaders, and top management. Ability to respond to significant inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. 
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to effectively demonstrate team member competencies and participate in goal-setting, performance feedback, and self-development activities.

Pay, Benefits, Work Schedule

Competitive Compensation

  • Pay Range:  $83250 to $132150 annually
  • Participation in Annual Incentive Program
