:
The Accounting Officer will work in the Financial Accounting Department and will report to the Senior Manager Financial Accounting. The selected candidate will advise of any accounting adjustments and/or accounting anomalies, review all the company’s key balance sheet accounts and prepare the monthly analyses and reconciliations, ensure all payments and income is accountable using accrual accounting and ensure that fixed assets are correctly classified according to the accounting policies and procedures in line with the company’s accounting manual. The incumbent should also exercise judgement when planning and performing work to ensure that the accountants have full knowledge of what is going on internally and externally. Challenges brought forward by the officer at their earliest convenience especially before month end close reviews. This is a contract (fixed term) position.
KEY DELIVERABLES:

- Reporting: Ensures the delivery of accurate and timely operational and other reports, with a view to supporting effective data analysis and decision-making.

- Networking: Builds a strong network of colleagues and associates within the airline industry, and within CARIBBEAN AIRLINES, upon whom he/she can call for information, knowledge and understanding as required.
KEY FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
These will include but will not be limited to:
- Prepares the monthly reconciliations and analyses, to facilitate analytical review.
- Prepares historical expense trends as a basis for accruals.
- Analyzes monthly flight and passenger statistics and make accruals assumptions on them.
- Reviews invoices and contracts to evaluate evidence of rates and activity changes.
- Reviews and makes the necessary adjustments for inventory management in secondary computerized systems. Ensures accounting is closed monthly, without material error or misstatement.
- Recommends accounting adjustments based on errors and omissions.
- Assists in preparing lead schedules to submit to auditors.
- Identifies outstanding items that are not properly classified from an accounting perspective and recommends the appropriate accounting treatment.
- Identifies outstanding items that do not adhere to the accounting policy manual.
- Ensures that all accounting, financial and operating controls relating to fixed assets are continuously maintained.
- Reviews and actions asset disposal in line with the company’s accounting manual.
- Prepares Taxation Schedules.
- Prepares monthly/quarterly/annual fixed asset schedules in line with the company’s accounting manual.
- Reviews and recommends Financial and Non-Financial Assets and liabilities for impairment.
- Prepares VAT returns for review, approval and timely payment.
- Performs such other duties outside the normal scope of responsibilities that may be required to maximize efficiency, productivity, teamwork, customer relations and enhance the entire operations of the company.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
You are required to have a minimum of ACCA Level II (or equivalent), or a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, and a minimum of five (5) CXC/CSEC/GCE Ordinary level passes, including English and Mathematics. You must have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a similar position.
You must also be proficient in the use of MS Office, (in particular, MS Excel and MS Word). Working knowledge of SAP and experience working in the Airline operations would be an Asset.
You must have excellent investigative and diplomacy skills as you will be required to work with and make inquiries at all levels of the organization. You will also need to have strong time management, critical thinking and analytical abilities, excellent facilitation and problem-solving skills.
The successful candidate must be legally authorised to work in Trinidad & Tobago.
