:
The Accounting Assistant (Payroll) will report to the Manager, Payroll. The selected candidate will support the Department in ensuring that the payroll functions are executed in accordance with company procedures, guidelines and statutory regulations. This is a contract (fixed term) position.
KEY DELIVERABLES:
- Customer Service Delivery: Ensures excellent internal customer service delivery by ensuring that employees’ queries are addressed in a timely manner.
- Operational Effectiveness: Ensures that employee salary payments are processed in accordance with pre-established payroll timelines (annual schedule).
- Relationship Management: Builds and develops mutually beneficial relationships with external stakeholders, including the relevant statutory authorities in all jurisdictions.
- Safety and regulatory compliance: Adheres to corporate safety, security and quality policies and remains fully compliant with all regulatory requirements, operational and quality standards.
- People Management: Supports Manager and Payroll Officers as a direct report through the effective performance of duties.
KEY FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting: Ensures the delivery of accurate and timely reports to support effective data analysis and decision-making.
Operational:
- Prepares reports and journals in accordance with pre-determined timeframes and guidelines.
- Completes statutory and other forms in accordance with guidelines and timeframes.
- Inputs, maintains and updates employee records on the payroll system.
- Maintains manual employee payroll records, including deduction reports and other payroll records.
- Prepares accounting transactions and payment vouchers.
- Assists with month-end processes, e.g. preparation and reconciliation of superannuation and statutory tax.
- Assists with year-end processes, e.g. annual payroll tax, TD4s and payment summary reconciliations.
- Responds to payroll queries from all employees.
- Investigates discrepancies and data input as it relates to outstanding matters.
- Reconciles payroll-related general ledger accounts and payroll balance accounts
- Prepares Authorized Transfer letters for line station salaries and crew per diem allowances.
Compliance: Ensures compliance with all internal Finance policies and procedures and accounting standards, including IFRS standards.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
You must have a minimum of level I ACCA (completed) or equivalent, and a minimum of five (5) CXC/GCE Ordinary Level passes, including English and Mathematics. You must be proficient in using MS Office in particular, MS Excel and a working knowledge of SAP would be an asset. You must also have two (2) years of experience as an Accounting Assistant, preferably in an Accounts Payroll environment.
Your ability to set priorities, work independently and under pressure, in a fast-paced environment, is essential to this role. You should also demonstrate excellent analytical, written and oral communication skills and have a proven record of accomplishment in a similar role and knowledge of and experience working in Airline operations, will be an asset.
